JPR Williams in action
John Peter Rhys Williams was born in Cardiff on the 2nd March 1949. After being educated at Bridgend County School, Millfield School and St Mary’s Hospital he has a profession as an orthopedic surgeon specialising in sports injuries.
In 1966 he won Wimbledon Junior Championships then in1968 he qualified for the British Open. The following year JPR Williams was selected for the Welsh tour of Argentina-the start of his Rugby career.
JPR Williams played rugby for Bridgend and London Welsh and was chosen for the captain of the Welsh side on nine occasions.
John Peter Rhys Williams had an international career as a full back that spanned three decades. He was a very competitive and committed player who made his last test appearance at the Arms Park in 1981.
He managed a total of 55 caps, eight of which were for the British Isles and 36 points.
JPR Williams was awarded an MBE in 1977 for his services to rugby.
