Danie Craven, born on the 11th October 1910, played for the South African team. As well as playing for the team, he was also the captain, selector, coach and administrator.  He attended Stellenbosch University and later lectured at the institution.

He was one of the leading scrum halfs in the 1930s. He played for South Africa from 1931 and 1938. He played tests in four different positions-scrumhalf, centre, flyhalf and No.8. In a touring match against Queensland, he also played fullback.

Furtherancein his rugby career was prevented by the war that took place in 1939. In the post-war era, he became a national selector, coach in the 1950s, the manager of Springboks and president of the white SA Rugby Football Board in 1956. He held the position of executive president until he passed away in January 1993 at the age of 82.

Danie Craven achieved a total of 16 caps.
