Gareth Edwards

Gareth Edwards epitomised the high standard of Northern Hemisphere rugby of the 1970's and scored the try that is widely regarded as the greatest try of all time.

The match took place in the home of rugby Cardiff.   Arms Park on 27 January 1973. The team was heavily dominated by Welsh players, giving a feeling of a home international.

The game is an excellent example of how Rugby should be played. There was attack, counter attack, running rugby and hard tackling. The pride and passion spilled off the pitch as the supporters became as much involved in the game as the players. The team played as one and this was highlighted in the build up to the try. The ball went through most of the player's hands and its creator, Gareth Owen Edwards, finished the move. Though the score was somewhat immaterial, the Barbarians won 23 - 11.

Gareth Edwards was born on the 12 of July in 1947 in Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen,in  Ammanford
