Hugo Porta:)

Hugo Porta was Born on the 11 th of September in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Hugo Porta is on of the greatest Argentinean rugby players in  Argentinean history  he was perhaps the best fly-half in Europe during the peak years of his career. He, attracted the attention of the world to rugby union on the South American continent.

Hugo Porta's was skilled in many ways by playing using full advantage of his skills to become an amazing  fly-half but he was equally adept at kicking the ball when required. Among his glittering array of achievements on the field, he remarkably kicked the ball so many times that all the points that were scored had come from him all of 21 points  this led to the Pumas' famous draw with the All Blacks in 1985. This was a rare accomplishment but he had
previously delivered to Australia with 21 points, during the same year as the game against the All Blacks. He also did the same again to France, with 18 points in 1997 by kicking the ball.

He made his international debut in 1971 and he eventually amassed 530 points for the Pumas during a 57-cap career which spanned almost 20 years. He captained his country of Argentina 43 times before he retired from the game in 1990.

Porta's remarkable kicking skills brought him several milestones at international level. He kicked 54 conversions in test matches, 109 penalty goals and landed 25 drop goals. He twice scored 23 points in a test match and his career total of 530 international points was rugby union's world record until surpassed by Australia's

Porta was appointed Argentinean ambassador to South Africa in 1991. He is now Minister for Sport in his home country. In 1999, Porta was fittingly voted the best fly-half of all time by Rugby World magazine
